Students
Our students have average to above average intelligence, but many different learning styles. They come to Ann Arbor Academy because they are usually frustrated, confused and struggling academically. The Academy provides a positive, nurturing environment in which students feel accepted for who they are. They are encouraged to explore and maximize their personal strengths and to understand their individual style of learning. Our dedicated faculty helps students find confidence through experiencing success, helping them develop successful compensating strategies.

"My experience at the Ann Arbor Academy has been that I came here with armor ten inches thick, a chip on my shoulder, and just an all-around bad attitude. About the only way to make friends was to fight and just be jerk. Then I came to the Ann Arbor Academy and they broke through the armor and got past all my drama. I learned fighting wasn’t the way in this school. Classes are much different here – they don’t just look over me and say “I’m gonna stand here until you do this.” Teachers are much more open, so you’re not doing work for a teacher, you’re doing work for a friend. Teachers just know where I’m coming from when I try to explain to them what’s going on because things are moving on the page, the bird outside has got my attention, that music really truly does help me. Teachers don’t just disregard us as morons because we have a hard time learning.”
