It is a privilege to return as a staff member to Ann Arbor Academy. When you live your passion, it can never be considered work. My name is Barbara Sanchez and this will be my 44th year in education. My career has taken me from Northern Michigan University to Wyoming, to Arizona and back to Michigan in 2011. This journey has provided me the opportunity to teach general education K-8, specialize and teach behavior disordered students grades 3-6, be an assistant principal, be a principal for K-8 and K-6 schools, work with neurodiverse students, counsel/mentor teachers and students and provide professional develop and curriculum development across the board.  I was also the Admissions director and Job coach at Ann Arbor Academy.

I began volunteering at Ann Arbor Academy in 2011 when my son Matthew enrolled as a 6th grader. I soon joined the faculty to teach electives and work with both students and teachers. One of my favorite roles was leading tours for prospective families. As a parent of a spectrum student and AAA graduate, I am able to help parents navigate their child’s journey.  I have had the opportunity to be a part of the growth that has the Academy excelling as a school for students who “beat to a different drum.” My current role is to work with teachers creating curriculum and opportunities for student success.
